Decentraland's SDK Hackathon, with prizes worth $275k, will start on September 16th! To participate and earn your share of this giant prize pool you don't need to understand the mechanics of the blockchain. You don't even need to own LAND in Decentraland! All you need to do is show your creativity with Decentraland's SDK.
What Is The Decentraland SKD Hackathon?
Decentraland is a virtual world that runs on the Ethereum blockchain. It's owned by the users, who can develop scenes, games, and various other content and deploy it on the LAND. They may also share this content with others, for free or for a fee.
To inspire more users to join Decentraland, the team is hosting its 2nd SDK Hackathon. The team has made 2,500,000 MANA (Decentraland's currency) and 200 plots of LAND up for grabs for the best participants. The winners will be decided by the Decentraland judging panel, community members, and other influential gaming industry names.
Why Should You Join?
If you like art and design, this is your chance to shine. You'll have fun using Decentraland's SDK and The Builder, sharing your experience with other community members, and potentially get rewarded for your efforts.
You can work alone or in a team (team submissions also count as single entries). And there are no special rules or restrictions with regards to what you can or can't create. And when you do create your scene, you can share the preview of it. If it stands out, the team will deploy it in the World and award you with LAND and MANA.
A World For Complete Beginners
The Decentraland team has been polishing the SDK over the past couple of months. The SDK became better with each update, and now supports collision events, allows player movement, and features a polished HUD interface. It's based on TypeScript and adopts mechanics found in other notable game development platforms.
But, if you're a complete beginner, Decentraland also allows you to use the Builder. The Builder is a free-to-use tool that enables complete beginners to develop and deploy scenes on Decentraland. And if you get stuck along the way, there are hundreds of community members ready to step up and help you overcome your obstacles.
