Uplandme, a developer of the Monopoly-like blockchain game Upland raised $2 million through its latest round of funding. Uplandme will use the funds to further develop Upland, a game which is currently in Beta and set for release in the upcoming months.
Who Are The Investors?
The lead investor in this seed round is FinLab EOS VC Fund. FinLab is backed by Block.one, the company behind the EOS blockchain. Among the investors was also Kai Bolik, co-founder and CEO of Gameduell. Gameduell is notable for having built a vast gaming community that counts 70 games and over 130 million players worldwide.
Jan Sprengnetter, the CEO of Sprengnetter Group, and Markus Ogurek, a former VP of Hewlett Packard Enterprise also invested in Uplandme. All parties believe that Uplandme is a passionate team, one that can deliver genuine digital ownership and Monopoly-like experience to the EOS blockchain.
What Is Upland?
Upland is a bridge between the virtual and real world. It's a blockchain game, one that allows you to buy, sell, and trade virtual properties on an open market. The game is currently in Beta, and you can join its waiting list and get access to the Closed Beta phase.
Every in-game property is based on those you can find in real life, with the same addresses, looks, and qualities. The game’s first edition, the Founders Edition, will start in San Francisco (SF), California. Effectively, in this first edition, you'll be able to navigate through the map of SF and purchase the properties you like with crypto and fiat.
Upland plans to offer iconic SF properties to the users in this first edition of the game. It’s reasonable to assume that these iconic properties will gain more and more value further down the road. The first edition of the game will also feature a Marketplace, which will also be followed by the release of UPX, Upland's in-game currency.
But Where's The Value?
Each property you own in-game will net you profit. So, the greater the value of your property, and the more properties you have, the bigger the profit.
When the game officially launches you'll be able to purchase new properties via the in-game Marketplace only. However, you'll also have your avatar, which will randomly explore the map for you and discover new properties for you.
The biggest value will come from Collections. Like in Monopoly, owning properties that belong to a specific Collection will net even more profit. Note that Upland will also offer Mystery Property Packs, which will enable you to complete your Collections and allow you to earn bigger yields.
Upland definitely sounds like a pretty cool game, and we'll surely keep you posted about it. In the meantime, be sure to check out our DGaming store to find DGames that you can play right now!
