Gods Unchained (GU) unveiled its new game modes to improve the gaming experience. The team listened to the community’s feedback, and through its balancing beta, delivered a variety of static and rotating game modes to make the game more enjoyable.
Determining The Problems
Based on community feedback and data, the team developed new game modes to solve the following problems:
- match queue times sometimes take way too long
- reward cards are often generic, forcing the players to develop similar decks and play the same strategies
- the need for more ways for the players to truly showcase their playing skills
- players need new prizes and more ways of unlocking XP
Solving The Problems
The GU team is just as good at solving the problems as they are in discovering them. To tackle the above-said problems, they've developed two new game modes: Static and Rotating.
Static modes are the ones that are already in the game. These include Constructed, where the players build decks and compete versus other players, and Solo, where the players can practice and experiment versus the AI.
Rotating modes are a novelty. They rotate daily every 5 hours to minimize queue time. These are Quick Sealed & Ranked Sealed, Quick Draft & Ranked Draft, and Weekend Ranked Draft.
Understanding The Rotating Modes
The rules of the Sealed modes are quite simple; you open a pack of 35 cards and select the best 30. With this deck, you can compete in Quick or Ranked matches. The Ranked matches will appear on rotation several times a day.
The Draft matches require that you pick 5 cards out of 10 each turn. You repeat this process until you have a deck of 35 cards, which you then must further refine and narrow to a playable deck of 30 cards. As with the Sealed mode, you're able to play Quick or Ranked matches. And like with the Sealed mode, the Ranked matches appear on rotation several times a day.
In addition to this, the team also added the Weekend Rank Draft. You play it the same way you play Constructed matches, only this time you compete with the players of your rank. You earn your Weekend rank, which updates with each match you play.
At the end of each week, you get bonus prizes based on your rank; the higher the rank, the bigger the reward. And don’t forget to keep an eye on the blue countdown under each mode to know the time of the next rotation.
