CryptoKitties has been one of the standout DApp success stories in 2018. However, the indications are that gambling DApps are where the real money is. Fomo3D, despite having a drop in users during August, recently saw 5x more users than CryptoKitties.
And according to Autonomous Research, a total of 21 gambling projects have attracted $300million via ICOs.
Why did this happen?
It has been speculated that gambling companies are receiving significant interest due to the fall in the price of ETH, which has dropped by 74% since the start of 2018. As a result, people are less likely to hold onto their ETH as an investment, and may see gambling as the best way to increase their chances of making a profit.
It also stands to reason that gambling DApps will see higher volume due to the fact winning players are likely to continue to turn over their winnings within the gambling DApp ecosystem.
What influence will it exert on the industry?
Greater volumes of money in gambling DApps mean there is likely to be greater innovation and the development of gambling DApps will increase at a quicker rate.
The amount of money in gambling could also lead to more gaming DApps introducing gambling mechanisms into the game-play so we see our first popular hybrid DApps.
