To create an army that is capable of building you a dynasty in Blocklords, you must choose your men wisely. Each has an interesting character. While these are not the official stories of some of the characters, this is what we imaged their stories to be.
Meet Christoff Carleton - Valiant Soldier
Christoff was born to a blacksmith father. A monsterous man, that forged strong steel swords that young Christoff used to play with as a child. His father was what you may call a pushy parent and used to beat young Christoff until he perfected his sword wielding abilities. And his mother? Well, less said about her the better, but let’s just say that the entire town knew her on a personal level. Unfortunately for Christoff, he witnessed his mother in some situations that aren’t conducive to raising a mentally sound young man.
This meant that Christoff, while tough as hell, grew up with what we can only put mildly as a few personality ‘quirks’. When he gets flashbacks of his mother, he deals with them in the only way he knows how, by stuffing his face and eating away the pain. While you wouldn’t want him as a best friend, as he would likely steal all of your worldly possessions, his father's aggressive tutoring means that he is one hell of an angry man. This makes him a great soldier and although his giant belly gets in his way in a fight, he could crush your skull into a million pieces with one of his fat hands… and then he would probably eat your brain in a ravenous mood swing.
Meet Birley Sartre - Valiant Soldier
Birley grew up as the youngest of 5 siblings, in a peasant family that used to forage the streets for any scraps of food that would fall from passing wagons delivering food to markets. It wouldn’t be incorrect to call Birley the runt of the family, as his older, bigger brothers used to dominate him at the dinner table. They would be the ones who gathered the food, and then had first choice. This left poor Birley to lick the slop from their wooden bowls as his only way of getting some sustenance into his frail body.
These early experiences meant that Birley wasn’t a big fan of confrontation, so would attempt to make friends by being a good, charitable soul. As part of your army, Birley will keep morale high by being an all round good egg, and sharing his spoils. However, it must be known that Birley is both lazy, and a coward. So in hand-to-hand combat, he will be caught in two minds. He will want to run for the hills, but will be too lazy to do so. All of these traits mean that he makes an excellent archer, and best kept away from the heat of the action.
Meet Silas Putnam - Valiant Soldier
Having a Silas on your side is a double-edged sword. He will do everything for you, but as long as it suits his interest.
Silas Putnam was the youngest son born to a family of Kings' soldiers. He had 2 older brothers, Jonas and Thomas. Though his father never admitted it, the two were always more favored. They wore better clothes, practiced with better gear, and even ate tastier food. They were trained to be soldiers too, just like their father Charles.
No one trained with poor Silas though. When he was only 5 years old, Silas fell off a tree and injured his right knee. He was able to walk, but not very fast. When he came home and told the story to his father, the father said: "You should have broken your neck!"
Unloved and uncared for, Silas grew bitter, envious and resentful. But because no one paid attention to him, Silas also got to do what he wanted. Each day after working on a farm Silas stopped by the tavern where only the worst gathered: prostitutes, thieves, murderers, and lunatics. That's where he learned how to fight, survive; even kill.
That's right! The rumor has it that one night, Silas got into a fight with an oppressive trader who was, if not respected, feared by others. But Silas didn't care. While the trader was shouting at the bartender for bringing him only 22 loaves of bread, Silas stood up, grabbed the knife and stabbed the trader in his back (quite literally). But that wasn't enough! He knocked the poor bastard and started stuffing the loaves of bread into the trader's mouth.
Others were amazed by Silas' actions, and he eventually formed his own group of thieves and assassins. Their actions were heard across the whole Kingdom. Even the King would hire them from time to time to handle delicate tasks: murdering family members that could jeopardize his rule, racketeering wealthy businessman who didn't pay taxes, stealing virgins...
Meet Otis Horn - Valiant Soldier
Otis had a tragic childhood; his mother died giving birth to him, and his father killed himself the day after she died. Thus Otis grew up in an orphanage with other orphans. He's always been shorter than others, probably because he was born a month early. Like other orphans, he worked as a peasant, sowing and harvesting plants, tending for animals, and so on.
And the fact that he was a short orphan working as a peasant surrounded by peers taller than him, Otis suppressed a lot of feelings. Whenever making a point, he shouted, yelled, and even lashed out at other orphans.
His roommates told us that one day, a priest criticized Otis's way of harvesting potatoes. Enraged, Otis rushed towards the priest, tackled him and beat his head over with a rotten potato! The priest survived, though, his faith was quite shaken. Some say he even lost faith in God because "No God would ever make an evil being like Otis"
Otis didn't have many things going for him in his life, but the ladies always liked him, and he always liked ladies. When he reached sexual maturity, Otis realized that he could channel his aggression into something, well, more productive...
Some say Otis has over 100 offsprings, but there's no way to prove that. If you want Otis in your army, make sure you don't have women in it. And try to avoid putting him in units with really tall soldiers; that'll make him extra angry.
Meet Borin Oginski - Valiant Soldier
Oginskis. Family of 5: father Gavin, mother Erin, Borin, his older sister Yasmin, and younger sister Robin. Wealthy. Beautiful. Famous. Except for Borin.
Oh, poor Borin. People always said that he was the antithesis to his family members, that God made him ugly just to keep nature in balance. Some even said that God made Borin just for the LOLs.
Borin's ugliness made him a very shy boy. He always kept for himself, avoiding talking to people, especially girls. People made fun of him, which Borin never forget, not because he didn't want to, but because he couldn't. He has a photographic memory and still remembers every insult. Borin was smart to put his memory to good use.
He was excellent with numbers, and working with his father (a merchant) made him an excellent trader. Gavin was the only person in the world that truly loved Borin, and when he died, Borin was crushed. He no longer had someone to turn to, and with time started taking it out on his customers. Eventually, he became ruthless, making deals with people who made fun of him just to bankrupt them and see them suffer.
Borin is now feared. He's still shy, but also ruthless. If you acquire him, don't make jokes about his looks. And never borrow money from him. But you can always say that enemies made fun of him; that will make him wanna murder them.
Meet Herbert Normandy - Knight of Valor
As Herbert grew up, he knew something was amiss. He didn’t fit into the small, quiet hamlet in which he grew up. He was an outsider. Herbert, affectionately known as Herbie by only his mum, would walk the muddy streets and see people pointing and whispering on a daily basis. Why? Well, Herbert's father stood at just 5 foot 1 tall. A squirt of a man, and ugly as a rabid dog. By the time Herbert was 16, he already stood at 6 foot 8 inches tall, and was as handsome as a prince. You didn’t have to be Einstein to figure out something was amiss. Rumour had it, that Herbert’s mother had an illicit encounter with a giant from the frozen north while out picking berries in the woods one day.
One day, Herbert heard these rumours and confronted his mother. Her silence spoke 1000 words. So he packed his things, stole a horse and rode off into the night. To survive, Herbie began trading anything he could get his large hands on, and even working as a ‘sword for hire’. He soon grew a reputation as big as his head, and was given the title of a ‘Knight of Valor’.
But beware, while Herbert has fearsome strength, and is super resourceful, he is also ambitious, and ruthless as hell. He is deeply scarred after the betrayal by the person closest to him. So if you believe he would think twice before crushing your skull as you slept to progress in the world, think again.
Meet Walther Dessain - Knight of Valor
When Walther was just 5 years old, he joined his father on a 100mile horse ride across barren countryside to sell wool at a trade fair. Unfortunately, one night they were ambushed by a gang of ruthless highwaymen. Under the cover of darkness, Walther was able to find refuge in a nearby bush, but had to watch as his father was brutally tortured and killed by the gang of thugs. Miles from home, he was left to fend for himself. It is said that this is why Walther grew to be an excellent adventurer.
However, lack of nutrition meant his growth was stunted, and he was physically weak. He made up for this by being cruel and ruthless, not thinking twice before gutting anyone that crossed his path. These traits mean that Walther is not afraid to lead groups of men into new territories. You’ll have to decide whether you can harness the dark energy generated from his cruel, ruthless heart.
Meet Blakey Crowles - Knight of Valor
Blakey grew up in a castle. His father was the King's bodyguard and the best swordsmen in the Kingdom. He was never around though, which meant that Blakey was raised by servants.
He was always without a care in the world. When he wanted fruit, servants brought him fruit. When he wanted women, they brought him a woman. And Blakey's appetite for women was and still is insatiable.
Though spoiled and careless, Blakey was incredibly quick on his feet and a swordsman like no other. Even as a young boy his agility was obvious to everyone around him, which is why the King's Council shaped him to become a general.
Blakey is now the King's general. He's very persistent and determined, capable of achieving pretty much everything he wants. He can win any duel and bring you many victories. But will he? Because Blakely Crowles sometimes just doesn't care.
